From the Ruins of Neoliberalism to Nowhere

Prof. Wendy Brown of UC Berkeley who is known with her fresh and critical interventions in critical legal studies and feminist theory will be the guest of the twelfth program of the seminar series “A Common Horizon for Humanity and the Planet”. The seminar will be broadcasted live on the Cappadocia University YouTube channel on Tuesday, June 7 at 20:00 (Turkish Time). She is the author of many books, including “Manhood and Politics: A Feminist Reading in Political Theory (New Feminist Perspectives)” (1998), “Edgework: Critical Essays on Knowledge and Politics” (2009), “Regulating Aversion: Tolerance in the Age of Identity and Empire” (2009), “Walled States, Waning Sovereignty” (2010), “Undoing the Demos: Neoliberalism’s Stealth Revolution: Neoliberalism’s Stealth Revolution (Near Future Series)” (2015) “Politics Out of History” (2018), “In the Ruins of Neoliberalism: The Rise of Antidemocratic Politics in the West” (2019) and “States of Injury: Power and Freedom in Late Modernity” (2020).
Her four books were translated into Turkish. The conversation will be on the topic of “From the ruins of neoliberalism to nowhere” and the program will be moderated by Professor Burak Özçetin of Bilgi University.

Prof. Wendy Brown at UC Berkeley is recognized as one of the leading political theorists. She completed her BA in Economics and Politics at UC Santa Cruz, her MA and PhD in Politics in Princeton University. Prof. Brown is known with her fresh and critical interventions in critical legal studies and feminist theory. Her research is oriented towards the study of democracy and sovereignty. She is the author of many books, including “Manhood and Politics: A Feminist Reading in Political Theory (New Feminist Perspectives)” (1998), “Edgework: Critical Essays on Knowledge and Politics” (2009), “Regulating Aversion: Tolerance in the Age of Identity and Empire” (2009), “Walled States, Waning Sovereignty” (2010), “Undoing the Demos: Neoliberalism’s Stealth Revolution: Neoliberalism’s Stealth Revolution (Near Future Series)” (2015) “Politics Out of History” (2018), “In the Ruins of Neoliberalism: The Rise of Antidemocratic Politics in the West” (2019) and “States of Injury: Power and Freedom in Late Modernity” (2020).

Prof. Burak Özçetin

Proffesor at Bilgi University

Özçetin is Professor of Communication at Istanbul Bilgi University, Department of New Media. He received his BA from Middle East Technical University, Department of International Relations, and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. He was a visiting researcher at the New School for Social Research Department of Political Science (New York) in 2006-2007 with a Fulbright Scholarship.
Özçetin’s basic areas of interest are communication theories, political communication, Ottoman-Turkish political life, cultural studies, political and social theory. Özçetin’s book, Mass Communication Theories: Concepts, Schools, Models, which systematically deals with the theories of mass communication, was published by İletişim Yayınları in 2018 (5th Edition 2022). He is working on a book on political communication theories and the course of political communication in Turkey.
