Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali KARASAR

Rector of Cappadocia University

Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar is currently the Rector of Cappadocia University and a faculty member of the Department of Political Science and International Relations. Previously, he worked in the Departments of International Relations at Atılım University (2013-2017) and Bilkent University (2003-2013), where he taught courses focusing on Central Asia and Eurasia. From its establishment, he served as the Secretary-General of the Bilkent Center for Russian Studies (2005-2013). Additionally, he chaired the Central Asia desk at the Ankara-based think tank, the Eurasian Strategic Research Center (2003-2005).

Since 1996, he has regularly participated in OSCE election missions, monitoring democratization and election processes in Eurasia. Karasar has conducted archival research on the history and politics of Eurasia and Central Asia in various countries, including Turkey, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Japan, and the United States. Since the early 1990s, his research has focused on the history, politics, ethnic and religious issues of Central Asia, as well as Turkish-Russian relations.

His studies have been published in journals such as Central Asian Survey, Europe-Asia Studies, and Cornucopia. Having extensive field experience in the former Soviet Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Volga-Ural regions, Karasar is proficient in English and Russian.
